"We’re raised...oh wow, this is so interesting. "We’re raised to myopically study one discipline. We’re not encouraged to even read things outside of our area—especially in higher education. And partly, the brain needs to focus on one thing to really get good at it. But we become too comfortable in what we know. So much art gets lost when we shut down to the possibility of other interests, and the possibility that those other interests can be relevant to our profession." In the endless discussions of what the essay (or any kind of writing) is, wants to be, can be, could be, I think we often forget how much potential there is to widen our vision, to forget the vocabularies we've insisted on, and walk into the world with our minds and hearts open to the possibilities of visual and textual relationships.theresahttp://www.theresakishkan.comnoreply@blogger.com
